I thought Bob Marley was a folk singer when I first heard of him around the time he died. I wasn’t entirely wrong, but it wasn’t until college that I learned from a couple dreads with a radio show that there was more to reggae than Marley. A couple decades later, I’ve absorbed hundreds of albums, visited Jamaica, read a dozen books on it, and participated in reggae discussion forums. Yet I still feel like I don’t know much. Since the early 1960s, there has been an unprecedented proportion of talented active musicians in Jamaica. I wouldn’t be surprised if musician was the top occupation, at least through the 80s. Every year previously unknown gems are being unearthed and reissued. The vast quantity of records made during the crazy and chaotic era of reggae’s 70’s peak guarantees this will continue for some time. My list is hardly definitive. It shows my obsession for Toots & The Maytals, and my preference for quirky, lesser known albums by Rico, Justin Hinds, Cedric Brooks, Ijahman and all things Lee Perry . But if your only point of reference is Bob Marley (whom I love and is well represented), or you’ve only associated reggae only with annoying hackey sack-tossing college trustifarians, you’ll find some rewarding stuff here.

This gluten-free chocolate cake is so decadent and moist, you’ll never guess its secret ingredient – black beans! The key to making a sugar -free cake taste good ...

Update #2: As of 2012, this cake has spread its chocolaty lovin’ all over the blogosphere! Here are some of the versions of this cake I’ve stumbled upon at other blogs. Feast your eyes and try not to drool too much looking at the phenomenal creations from some very talented food bloggers! 😀

I made the mistake of trying this the first time in a summertime and I got litteraly sick, the mix of sour and sweet was simply nauseous, it was the worst blind buy ever and I only kept it to give it away to anyone who would bear it. Lately I felt like sadic and spray it again right before shower and actually liked it, ok too sticky sweet and kiddy but so comforting and cozy specially in a very cold weather. Now I always associate it with my big pyjamas when wraped in a blanket watching a movie, I am twelve again.

Some people do not like the scent of the olive oil. Since it is the main ingredient in the scrub it does have a scent of olive oil. There are many different varieties of oil available I would suggest using a medium grade brand – also I use Extra Virgin Olive Oil in mine – not sure if that makes a significant difference but the scent does not bother me – Mixed with the lemon I find it to be ok for scrubbing my hands. To some the scent of olive oil is just not that appealing. If you are looking for more of a bath and body type scrub I would suggest trying the Pumpkin Spice Sugar Scrub found here: http:///2010/11/make-your-own-pumpkin-spice-sugar- . In addition, the olive oil in the lemon scrub can be replaced with sunflower or safflower oils.

Just made these while kiddos napped. Used a short-cut of fridge sugar cookie-dough that I had on hand. Made it uber easy. Although I cut my discs a bit too skinny b/c baked up flat…but uber yummy! Thank you!
